Why I’m Done With Adobe

I will never pay Adobe (directly) for software licensing, or anything, again. If Adobe starts parking cars, I will park somewhere else rather than pay one of their lot attendants. They suck. Apple is getting there, but Adobe is long-term suck. They create some great (bloated, but great) content creation tools, no doubt about it. But every thing else they do is bloated and fat and works toward integrating into your operating system to prepare you to upgrade to a whole suite of their products and WHAT THE FUCK!! What about the normal consumer, you know the majority of us out there? Adobe has no idea how to build something for us. No idea. PDF reader was easy as hell, and my guess is that they have a bag of shit on how to monetize it. Apple is evil, but at least they give a shit about user experience for installs, but Adobe is just greedy and desperate. A guy called me (at home mind you) one morning, during breakfast to ask me why I didn’t sign up for Adobe Connect. “Because it sucks,” I told him. I had login problems. The system lost a call I’d scheduled. It changed the timezone on another conference call. What a piece of shit. If you’re getting into a business, GET INTO A BUSINESS!!! Don’t half-ass it because you’re desperately trying to be all things to all people because you know you’re toward the end of the product life-cycle with most of your stuff. I should probably give Apple a call to make sure they don’t go down the same road with some of their shit.

OMG, I can’t believe how I feel about this camera. It’s digital. It’s light. It looks vintage. It’s got great lens options. I don’t even care if it performs. I want it so bad I’m going to scream. This is lust. This is what lust is like. Sex and food don’t matter: Only this camera. And sleep, I definitely could see me getting more sleep.

A well-designed camera makes it so much more satisifying for me. I own two Olympus point-and-shoot 35mm film cameras (a green one and a red one, the red one) that have a very ‘retro’ 1950′s look. I still have a crush on both of them after twelve years. The Olympus E-PL1 four third digital. Feast your eyes.

One Amazing Thing

I can’t believe it took me this long to understand something very important. Something very essential. Great photography-hell even good photography-is capturing a focus on one amazing thing. A person’s face. All of the great photo’s I have ever seen communicate one thing very, very well. This person is poor. These eyes are blue. God put a lot of attention to detail in creating this mountain. One Amazing Thing. The images I’m less impressed with try to do to much, or are purely technical achievements. They try to do too much, or they don’t say anything. “That door is blue” can be an amazing thing, but sometimes two bright colors, living together in harmony or conflict says nothing.

I don’t have any fucking idea what you’re talking about. I can’t hear you over my own loud voice talking loudly in a bar, trying to hear myself and the person I’m talking to on my phone over the other bar patrons and their loud conversations on their cell phones. You know what the world needs? A bar and/or restaurant just for people that want to talk on their fucking cell phones all day and not be bothered with face-to-face contact. You know the shit I’m talking about. Guys that think they’re players and chicks that think they’re divas and young pieces of shit that have no real life and can’t handle silence because they might be forced to think or something. Feeling a little bitter today about cell phone assholes. I don’t even like talking on the fucking phone. Right to business, I say. Just the factual, jacktual.

He gets his tools. Ancient. Bigger than you’d expect. Hand made Iron Age shit. “Looks like we’re going to need the leeches,” he tells me, in a distracted, but matter-of-fact tone.

“Mmmmmm,” I affirm.
“You’ve got more than a colon problem this time. I’m going to need to heal up this giant ring of fire, this Fisher’s Hook, and there appears to be a rather run-down mobil home park taking up space on your gooch area. What you been using to wipe, sage brush?”

“Yes.”

He doesn’t laugh. “I have this extra asshole out back, on ice” he tells me, “that I took off a dead seventy year old guy a few years ago. You might be better off with that. His crack-skin was far more resilient than this can of strained peaches you’re using got right now. I’ll be right back. I’m gonna need my Ass Auger and my bigger Crack Trowels.” I’m going to have to tip him a little more than I do for the standard hair cut, I’m guessing.

Astigmatatism

I haven’t tried the direct line to the Vatican yet, but….my contact solution has lasted for four and half years now. And I’m not frugal with it. I use a liberal amount to rinse my contacts, and I pretty much fill up the two reservoirs on my contact case. To tell you the truth, I’m frightened. Is this a sign of the apocalypse, or is it a minor miracle? I am definitely the type of guy who would get miracles in the form of unlimited household products. I wouldn’t get raised from the dead, I would just get the Never-Run-Out Head & Shoulders tube. I called Joseph Cardinal Bernadin, but it turns out he’s dead. I wish someone would have told me. So either way, if this is is a sign of evil or a sign of some heavenly descencion, I’m more than a little worried. I think I can handle the evil thing o.k., because I’ve always sort of expected some evil shit to go down in my crib. But I’m totally unprepared for any messiah-like visitation. And I’m not talking about clean towels (note to self: check if I’ve had to buy laundry detergent in the last 4 1/2 years), I’m talking about spiritually. You can count the amount of times I’ve prayed in the last twenty years on your penis. And that includes you girls. It’s either one time or zero times depending on your definition. So, for my sake, let’s hope this is just a practical joke or I have some psychological repression that makes me forget I’ve replaced toiletry items.

Nope, I don’t think a president can make a huge difference in turning around the economy. We need environmental factors that bring us out of it. Pro-business, pro-consumer, all that shit. People don’t get it. Obama is going to have too much pressure. No one can live up those expectations. I voted for the guy, but I feel some sympathy for him. I don’t think anyone signed up for what he’s about to get. And i’m not talking about Fox News and Rush Limbaugh crap. I’m talking about an un-winnable war against a bad economy. We are about to undergo some change, and while we’re a very adaptable people, we may not be ready for what is coming next. The death of some big manufacturing and financial services companies, the death of some American industries. A push for new energy sources. We are looking at some disruption. Hold on to your walnuts, boys.
